Plainview is located in Northeast Nebraska in Pierce County.  Served by U.S. Highway 20 and State Highway 13, Plainview is 32 miles northwest of Norfolk, NE; 55 miles southwest of Yankton, SD; 75 miles west of Sioux City, IA; and 145 miles northwest of Omaha, NE.

The population of Plainview in the 2010 U.S. Census was 1246.
